Pope Francis is once again shaking things up in the Catholic Church. On Tuesday, he issued his first “apostolic exhortation,” declaring a new enemy for the Catholic Church: modern capitalism. “Some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world,” he wrote. “This opinion, which has never been confirmed by the facts, expresses a crude and naive trust in the goodness of those wielding economic power and in the sacralized workings of the prevailing economic system.”
He couldn’t be much clearer. The pope has taken a firm political stance against right-leaning, pro-free market economic policies, and his condemnation appears to be largely pointed at Europe and the United States.

Things are about to get really, really interesting in the world of politics and religion. Recently the Popiest Catholics and the most politically conservative Catholics have tightly overlapped. So have the most liberal and the most lapsed.
And now this.
most lapsed hereby registering an official twitch of the formerly Catholic ear; still not impressed, but, okay, I c wot u did there
this is the first pope I have legit ever wanted to fistbump.
the catholic church got a pope who actually endorses the principles jesus preached, and now they have no idea what to do about him. i’m not catholic, but i am absolutely riveted to this guy’s progress.
remember when he said the chuch needs to quit harping on sexuality and focus on poverty? remember when he spoke up for muslim immigrants? remember when he washed the feet of prisoners, without regard to color or gender? remember when he said women should play a greater role in the church? remember when he denounced child abuse and child labor and demanded the church focus on fighting it?
when a political power like the catholic church somehow ends up with a spiritual leader instead of a political one, things get kind of exciting. :D
Steven Moffat Doesn’t Understand Grief, and It’s Killing Doctor Who
There’s a popular joke I’ve seen floating around on Tumblr for a while now. It goes like this:
“Joss Whedon, Steven Moffat and George R.R. Martin walk into a bar and everyone you’ve ever loved dies.”
Here’s the problem, though:
SOMEBODY FINALLY FUCKING SAID IT THANK YOU
"But more importantly than that, when you have no death, when nothing truly has weight or scale, when decisions don’t stick and nobody feels the consequences… it’s hard to care about anything. The stakes on the show feel so low at this point that a once addictive program is unengaging, dull and hollow."
Lock your fucking doors on Tuesdays in Thedas. [x]
My doing, I’m afraid. Buffy reference.
If I have my way, one day I will do an homage to “Once More With Feeling”. Fade adventure. Demon of Revelry. Singing. Dancing. At least one reference to bunnies, mustard stains, and perhaps a Bollywood number.
And then I’ll be good. I can put Buffy to rest forever. :)
